Emilie-Claire Barlow talks about her daringly arranged and imaginatively curated new album with the Metropole Orkest. Clear Day ushers in a new phase of her career.
The disc’s era and genre spanning songs, including material by Brad Mehldau, Paul Simon, David Bowie and Queen, Coldplay, Pat Metheny and Joni Mitchell, tell a chronological story of Barlow’s emotional journey with fresh and inventive arrangements and orchestrations by Barlow and collaborator Steve Webster.
John Metcalfe, ochestrator/arranger on Peter Gabriel’s Scratch My Back, wrote orchestrations for two of the songs on the new disc which features an expanded 70-piece Metropole Orkest conducted by Jules Buckley.
“With this album, I’m reaching for something bigger, more challenging and more personal,” Barlow said. “It’s a bit of a departure for me and it represents my growth as a person and as a musician. I hope that my audience is willing to come along on this journey with me.”
Clear Day was released last October 23, 2015.
